Arts Discovery Workshops

The Peace Center Arts Discovery Workshops introduce middle and high school students to unique forms of performance art. Students attend a weekly workshop taught by professional artists that will culminate in a showcase for family and friends on the final day. 

Upcoming Workshops

Art of DJ-ing

Over four Saturdays, students will learn the fundamentals of the disc jockey craft. The workshop will provide knowledge, skills, tips and tricks as well as detailed technical explanations of equipment. Participants will have the opportunity to work with different types of modern professional equipment and will work toward producing a 25-30 minute recorded mix or live performance. 

WHO Middle and High School Students (ages 13-18) 

WHEN Workshops take place on Saturdays from 11am to 2pm (February 11, 18, 25 & March 4)

WHERE Gunter Theatre on the Peace Center’s campus.

COST There is a $50 enrollment fee, which includes workshop materials, snacks, and lunch.

Instructor: With over 20 years of experience, DJ Sha has become a local icon in the DJ-ing space. He started his career spinning CDs in night clubs and has successfully grown his business to become a mainstay in the Upstate area. DJ Sha is Clemson University's official DJ at college sporting events. DJ Sha started his career with 107.3 JAMZ and Hot 98.1 and is currently working with B-93.7. He is the official DJ for the Greenville Triumph, Greenville Liberty and has provided the soundtrack for The Carolina Panthers and other professional sports teams

DJ Sha will be sharing his DJ knowledge as well as teach students how to develop a career in this art form.

Wordplay (Poetry)

Wordplay is an Arts Discovery Workshop guided by Greenville's Poet Laureate Glenis Redmond. Students will explore different forms of poetry, discover emerging young poets and find their own poetic voice. Over the course of four weeks, participants will develop poems and perform at a poetry slam in the final session.

WHO: Middle and High School Students (ages 13-18) 

WHEN: Workshops take place on Thursdays from 4:30-6:30pm (Apr. 6, 13, 20, 27)

WHERE: Ramsaur Studio on the Peace Center’s campus.

COST: There is a $50 enrollment fee, which includes workshop materials, snacks, and lunch.

Instructor: Greenville Poet Laureate Glenis Redmond will lead this workshop. Redmond is a performance poet, a Kennedy Center Teaching Artist, a Cave Canem alumni, and a former poet-in-residence here at the Peace Center. She is the author of three books of poetry with three more books set to publish. Her work has been showcased on NPR and PBS and most recently published in Orion Magazine, southStory and The New York Times. Glenis has spent almost three decades touring the country as a poet and teaching artist.
