Since their 2010 debut, The Secret Sisters (Alabama siblings Laura Rogers and Lydia Slagle) have built a reputation for spellbinding harmonies and emotionally rich songwriting that explores life, love, and womanhood. Their fifth album, Mind, Man, Medicine, reflects a new chapter for the duo, shaped by motherhood, personal growth, and a deeper sense of self-acceptance. The record blends country and folk with expansive textures while confronting modern life’s challenges with empathy and resilience.
The album follows their Grammy-nominated 2020 release Saturn Return, produced with Brandi Carlile, and marks the sisters’ first time stepping into a co-production role. They collaborated with Ben Tanner of Alabama Shakes and John Paul White of The Civil Wars, recording in the legendary FAME Studios and nearby Florence, Alabama. The sessions also feature acclaimed musicians including Ray LaMontagne and multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell.
Across the album, The Secret Sisters examine the tensions and tenderness of everyday life—love, fractured friendships, motherhood, identity, and compassion in a divided world. Songs like “Space” reflect on maintaining connection despite differences, while others explore healing, advocacy, and the grounding power of enduring relationships.
At its core, Mind, Man, Medicine represents a creative turning point for the duo. With renewed confidence and honesty, Rogers and Slagle embrace vulnerability while leaning into acceptance and presence. The result is a deeply personal collection of songs that continues The Secret Sisters’ tradition of pairing luminous harmonies with thoughtful reflections on the complexities of being human.
