Hailed as one of the “most important bands in music since the dawn of the rock and roll era,” the legendary rock and roll band with horns, Chicago ranks as the highest-charting American band in Billboard’s Top 125 Artists of All Time. They are also the first American rock band to chart Top 40 albums in six consecutive decades.

In 2025, Chicago’s debut album Chicago Transit Authority was inducted into the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress. That same year, the band celebrated the 50th anniversary of Chicago IX: Chicago’s Greatest Hits with Chicago IX: Greatest Hits Expanded. Recent releases include Chicago at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (9/16/1971) (2024), Chicago Greatest Christmas Hits (2023), and their 38th studio album Born for This Moment (2022), featuring the hit “If This Is Goodbye.”

The 2022 documentary The Last Band on Stage, directed by Peter Curtis Pardini and narrated by Joe Mantegna, chronicles how Chicago became the last band playing in the U.S. as COVID-19 lockdowns began and how they persevered through the pandemic.

Chicago has received The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2016) and the Grammy Hall of Fame (2014), and members Robert Lamm and James Pankow entered the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2017). Their accolades include two Grammys, two American Music Awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and record sales exceeding 100 million.

With 21 Top 10 singles, five consecutive No. 1 albums, and 25 platinum releases, Chicago remains a musical powerhouse. The band—led by original members Lee Loughnane, Robert Lamm, and James Pankow—continues to tour the world, proudly carrying the name of their hometown into their 58th consecutive year on the road.
