Event Details
Virtuoso guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Gary Clark Jr. has wowed audiences since 2010 with electrifying live sets, but he achieved global impact in 2014 with his debut album Blak and Blu, which includes the Grammy Award-winning track “Please Come Home.”
As a teen, Clark began making a local name for himself and crafting his signature gritty-sweet vocals by jamming with adult musicians on the eclectic Texas circuit and singing in the church choir with his sisters. This on-the-job training is where he shared the stage with blues heroes like Jimmie Vaughn, Hubert Sumlin Jr, and Pinetop Perkins. Influenced by musical kings like B.B., Albert, and Freddie, the Austin-born guitar prodigy quickly became a multi-instrumentalist driven by one principle: “I listen to everything…so I want to play everything.”
Called a revolution of rock and roll and a savior of blues, Clark swept the 2012-2013 annual Austin Music Awards, winning eight awards - Band of the Year, Musician of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Electric Guitarist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Blues/Soul/Funk Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. In 2014 and 2015, he garnered a Blues Music Award for Contemporary Blues Male Artist of the Year. He has also collected four Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, Best Traditional R&B Performance, and Best Contemporary Blues Album for This Land.
Clark is currently working on his follow-up to This Land.
Austin-based duo Blackillac will be opening for Gary Clark Jr.
