Artist Residency with Doug Oberhamer

The Peace Center’s Arts Education and Community Engagement Department introduces the Artist Residency Program to provide creative and unique opportunities for students, educators, and community members.

Award-winning Broadway Musical Director, Arranger, and Orchestrator Doug Oberhamer will lead workshops and intensives to hone performing arts abilities, strengthen audition skills, and guide the exploration of new arts genres.

The following programs take place at 101 West Broad Street, Greenville, SC 29601 in the Ramsaur Studio on the Peace Center Campus.

About Doug Oberhamer

Doug is an award-winning Broadway Musical Director, Arranger and Orchestrator as well as multi-instrumentalist who has worked in the music industry his entire career. His experience ranges from conducting, music directing, composing, performing, vocal coaching, and music production in all settings of the arts from Broadway/National Tours to pop tours and worldwide productions.

Selected Broadway/National Tours include: Swing, Wicked, Rocky, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Crazy for You, and Saturday Night Fever.

One of New York’s most in demand vocal coaches, Doug’s work with both Broadway and Recording Artists prepares them to book the gig and helps them select material that showcases their talent. Doug has collaborated with Nile Rodgers, Ariana DeBoise, Frank Wildhorn, Ann Hampton Callaway, Diahann Carroll, Jerry Lewis, Joan Rivers, Vivian Reed, Laura Benanti, Linda Eder, KC and the Sunshine Band, and The Four Seasons.

His work with education includes serving a guest clinician for both instrumental and vocal ensembles at the high school and collegiate levels.  He has created benefits for The Educational Theatre Association & Educational Theatre Foundation and served as musical director/conductor for Marymount Manhattan College.

Singing in a Musical Theatre Ensemble

Grades 9 – 12 • Limited to 30 participants (first come, first served)

Singing as an ensemble is crucial to any musical theatre performance.  You must collaborate, blend, harmonize, and articulate to support telling the same story.  In this workshop you will work as an ensemble to learn a musical theatre song and shape a stage worthy performance.  Skills such as advanced harmonies, varying musical styles, and character development through singing will be emphasized.  No experience is necessary, and materials will be provided on the day of the workshop.

Musical Theatre Vocal Technique

Do you consider yourself a dancer first, singer second?  Do you want to work toward expanding your vocal range?  In this technique based 2-hour workshop you will be given exercises and ways to strengthen both your vocal ability and self-confidence. Basic skills like breath support, intonation, and music selection will be discussed.  All materials you need will be provided.
