5 Questions with Daughtry

Spotlight

1. If you could have any one super power, what would it be?

I always struggle between invisibility and flight. Let’s go with flight. That’s always useful. I hate traffic more than anything in the world, so if I could just fly to where I wanted to be, that would be perfect.

2. What would you use your three wishes on?

Well, flight! So I could fly. I wish I could time travel. And I wish I could meet an extraterrestrial.

3. If you weren’t a musician, what do you think you’d be doing?

If I wasn’t a musician, I think I’d be doing nunchucks.

4. What is your must-have travel item when you’re on tour?

It’d have to be a razor. I have to shave my head like every other day.

5. What do you want Greenville to know about you?

I saw a UFO when I was 9…in North Carolina. You’re either gonna think I’m crazy or you’re gonna be intrigued.

My mom, a close friend and I were coming home from school one evening and you know, you’ve seen Mars. You’ve seen the red dot in the sky. Well, it was particularly red and we were driving down a typical country road with open fields on the side. The sky was pretty clear that night, so we decided to pull over and look at it.  We were thinking, that’s really cool, it’s really bright for Mars. But what else could it be? Then all the sudden, these lights started spinning around it. Like strobes. And it progressively got quicker and quicker and quicker until it vanished and left a streak in the sky. We all looked at each other like, “okay, I’m not the only one who saw this.” That was super crazy and I had chills and everything. So that’s my UFO story.

And why should folks in Greenville come to the show?

Because it’s been a very long time, and we’ve gotten better at our jobs. And you’re gonna hear some new songs from the record that have yet to be heard, and we’ll be playing them live, so it’s gonna be a good set. And Sinclair, who is opening for us, is so cool. The fans are going to love her.

I’m excited. It’s gonna be a good time.

Bonus question. We’ve been following your page on Facebook and want to know the inspiration for the laser cats?

You’re the first person to ask. That’s really cool.

Here’s the thing. We typically seem to have taken ourselves very seriously over the past years and it was never the intention to come off like we don’t know how to have fun. And when we were going through different backdrops and things like that for VIP event and meet and greets, we were like, why do we have to make it so serious, and have our logo? Everyone knows who they came to see. We’re in the picture. Let’s make it fun. I literally said cats that are shooting lasers or something as a joke, and when they sent us a bunch of options to look at for the backdrop, I was like, they did it! That is absolutely what we should use for no reason at all other than the fact that you can’t not laugh when you see it.
